Puerto Vallarta fishing report June 2014

Hola once again to all my fishing buddies!
On this trip Fernando and wife went out with the one and only captain Hector. They went out for 3 days and had a wonderful time fishing. On this day they did an 8 hour charter and headed out to the Marietas islands area and they also fished el Moro island. The water temperature has finally warmed up and the tuna, marlin and sailfish are coming in close to the bay. On this day Fernando and wife landed some Yellowfin tuna and also 2 nice sailfish, with one catch and release.
Their hunt for Mahi mahi was unsuccessful but they did see many but they just were not biting. I expect as the rains are arriving that the river flows that go into the ocean the bay will be teaming with schools of mahi mahi and the giant tuna will get closer. So don't forget to book your fishing charter with us (Charly´s fishing). You can also read about all our client comments visiting Tripadvisor.com
Until next time!

Puerto Vallarta fishing report April 2014

Hola once agian to all my fishing buddies

On this day we departed from the Marina vallarta at 7:00 am and headed to the Marietas islands. About half mile from the Marietas we ran into a big school of sardines where captian Hector started casting with a castmaster and we landed a couple of 5 lb bonitas to put in the Tuna tubes for use later on the big roosters that are near the Marietas and also El morro island. We continued just past las Marrietas and started trolling with luhres and landed about 5 sierra in the 12lb range.

Things got slow for a while so moved back to the marietas and started using the big eye live bait just dropping the lines in the shallower areas of the island and quicky started landing small african pompanos!  4 in total in the 5 to 8 lb range. Then we proceeded to change our bait to the bonitas we had previously caught and had in our tuna tubes.

This was the end of our 8 hour trip and was full of excitement as we landed our first big roosterfish. My friend Kathy from Colorado started fighting the fish for 10 minutes in she was done so husband David took over and brought the rooster in 25 minutes later for a total fight of 35 minutes. The weight was a good 55 lbs. We ended up landing one more big rooster weighing about 35lbs. All in all we had another successful trip with captain Hector. So if your comming down to visit Puerto Vallarta don't forget to contact us here at  Charlys. You can pre book online or just drop in and pay us a visit. So until next time.

Puerto Vallarta fishing report

To all my fishing Buddies!

This past week Charly´s team headed out fishing just a couple of miles past the (marieta islands). We left the Marina Vallarta around 7:30 am and reached our fishing spot at 8:45am. Captain Howard and deckhand Nacho decided to fallow the river current that pours out into the ocean during this time of year from the Sierra Madre rain forest into the ocean for many miles, there,  the sardines were feeding and resting under the floating Palms, kelp and tree trunks. We started trolling aside the current and debris and quickly hooked on to a big Sailfish which took about 25 minutes to land.

Nacho, Charly, Jonathan

Then 1 hour later, we landed another nice Sailfish  that we were able to release back into the ocean. As the day progressed Captain Howard decided to start using Big eyes which was our live bait we had in our live well and it didn't take long before we started landing Mahi-mahi in the 20 to 40 lb range,.At last count we landed 5 nice Mahimahi, sailfish and some artic bonitas before heading back. So at this time fishing for Mahi- mahi is of the hook as all boats are coming in with smiles on there faces after having a good day fishing. So come on down for some good fishing and excitement with Charlys fishing team.

Puerto Vallarta Fishing Report

Hola to all my fishing buddies from beautiful Puerto Vallarta!
We are off to a great start on our prime fishing season. The water temperature is between 83F to 86F and the pacific current is directing itself to our benefit so the warm waters are just right for landing dorado, sailfish, tuna and marlin.
Recently Charly´s team (Juan Carlos, Charly and me Jonathan) went out with captain Nacho approximately 22 to 25 miles out from the marina Vallarta. On our way out we made a quick stop and netted some sardines for the tuna among the big-eyes we already had in the live well. We continued on pass the marietas islands towards "El Morro" island, at first  it was a little slow only landing some Bonitas and then around 1:00pm the fun started with a couple of dorados (mahi-mahi) in the 25lb to 35lb range. We then spotted a couple of stripped marlin but no luck :(   they just seemed not to be on the hungry side so we continued on to the fishing grounds called "el faro" which is just outside the south side of the bay, there... things got interesting. Captain Nacho spotted a nice school of tuna and we quickly got the live-bait and the excitement begun with hookups of 2 tunas at the time landing a total of 9 tunas in the 60lb to 80lb range.
Sad to say we lost one in the 150lb range but..You cant always get them all!
On our way back in, we spotted more marlin but no bites, so I can tell you that the big game fishing is teaming in these waters for marlin, big tuna, dorado and sailfish.
My next trip plan is this Wednesday to La corbeteña and El banco where our captains have reported big blue marlins in the 500lb to 600lb range and tuna in the 100lb to 250lb range which is the great news we have been waiting for, so until the next time... your fishing buddy:

We also spotted a few mahi-mahi but could not get them to bite.
The water temperature is now about 83º so we should start landing big blue, stripped and black marlin soon,so untill the next time!

Puerto Vallarta fishing report march 8th 2011

Hola to all my fishing buddies around the globe!

the water temperature and our climate is finaly starting to warm up,so we are starting to spot bill fish getting closer to our bay of banderas, also mahi mahi, but for nowwe are in "african pampano" heaven. (of course we are not in Africa)
I went out with captain Nacho in a 26ft panga called "La Bamba" about 22 miles out to the area of "el morro" and the elephant rock.
We were fishing using live bait and early in the morning we landed 3 tough fighting amber jacks, one in the 45lb range and 2 in the 20lb range but around 12:00pm, we started hooking up the delicious african pampano non stop! one after another from 5lb to 30lb. in total we landed about 20 pampanos and 3 amber jacks.

special thanks to Ron and his wife who chartered the boat and share a few of their own fishing secrets.
until the next time!  your fishing buddie: Jonathan.

Puerto Vallarta fishing report

Hola again to all my fishing buddies out there!

the water temperature continue to stay cool and has not warmed up much,so we are still landing snapper, roosterfish and african pampano in the 8 hr charters. this week I went out with the "sea hog"  with captain Victor on a 13hr charter, about 45 miles from the marina, outside of what we call "el banco" and near the Maria Cleofas island.  we had one good fishing trip to remember! the tunas were everywere and we landed 3.  150lb to 175lb tunas and stripped marlin.

they were around 10lb to 20lb snappers!  I also landed a couple of roosterfish in the 35lb range and some african pampano. enjoy the pictures!

Fishing report

Fishing report. By Jonathan Peinado.

Good morning to all my fishing buddy’s

This week has been a new beginning for dorado (mahi-mahi) in Puerto Vallarta, the heavy rains have filled the natural rivers to their capacity, and the river flow into the ocean has attracted the dorado to the bay, I went out for a short 6 hour fishing trip this Sunday around the river divide just inside the bay ,fishing around the tree stumps and palms that flowed out from the rivers to the ocean, these areas are a favorite feeding grounds for big dorado and other ocean fish such as Toro and smaller game fish, my partner Juan Carlos and I landed 4 Dorado in the 15 to 30 lb range and landed a few (bonitas).so it was a fun and successful fishing trip, cant wait for my next trip out. so until next time

Hola to all my fishing buddies from beautiful Puerto Vallarta. Fishing here is changing for the better, the water temperature has been on average 82 to 85 degrees which is perfect for big game fishing .I went out on July 4th early morning about 5:30am on a 12 hour charter for some big game fishing for tuna, blue and black marlin my day started a little slow but after a couple of hours we got our first bite on a 150 lb tuna and ended up landing 5 big tunas in the 150 to 200lb range, our average fight time was 45 to 55 minutes using Penn international and medium test line, on our way back we fished around the 8 hour charter area outside the north side of Bandera’s bay and landed a small marlin about 200 lbs, so this fishing trip left everyone of us with smiles. So come join us at Charly’s and get ready for some good fishing. Until next time your fishing buddy: Jonathan.
